How CIDFA Brought 8,000+ Dancers to the Stage — With a Little Golden Help

How CIDFA Brought 8,000+ Dancers to the Stage — With a Little Golden Help

The Stage Was Set. The Costumes Weren't.

When the Colombo International Dance and Folklore Festival Association (CIDFa) first approached us, they had a problem that every performing arts organization in Sri Lanka knows too well:
"We have the talent. We have the vision. But finding quality dance costumes, traditional percussion instruments, and stage props locally — at the scale we need — is nearly impossible."
CIDFa isn't just any dance academy. For over 20 years, they've been the beating heart of Sri Lankan classical and folk dance — running the CIDFa Provincial & All Island Dance Competition, hosting Bharat–Sri Lanka Cultural Exchanges, and training over 8,000 students per event across Kandyan, Low Country, Sabaragamuwa, and Indian classical dance forms.
But scaling a national-level dance competition with hundreds of performers? That requires more than talent. It requires costumes that don't tear mid-routine, drums that hold their tune, stage lighting that does justice to every mudra, and event logistics that run like clockwork.
That's where My Golden Lanka came in.

The Challenge: Importing Culture, One Container at a Time

CIDFa's needs were specific — and demanding:
  • Traditional dance costumes for Kandyan, Low Country, and Sabaragamuwa performers
  • Bharatanatyam and Indian classical attire for cultural exchange programs
  • Geta Bera, Yak Bera, Dawula, Thammattama, and Udekki drums — authentic percussion instruments
  • Stage props, backdrops, and ceremonial décor for large-scale productions
  • LED stage lighting and sound systems capable of illuminating 8,000-seat venues
  • Full event production support for their annual All Island Competition
The local market simply couldn't deliver the volume, quality, and consistency CIDFa needed — especially when preparing for their 2026 Provincial & All Island Dance Competition, with registration already open and thousands of dancers counting on them.

Our Solution: One Partner, Every Detail

At My Golden Lanka, we don't just import products — we solve problems end-to-end. For CIDFa, that meant a three-phase partnership:

Phase 1: Sourcing the Unsourceable

We went straight to our network of vetted manufacturers in China — specialists in traditional performing arts supplies, costume ateliers, and percussion instrument workshops. Within weeks, we had:
  • Custom-designed Kandyan dance costumes with authentic ves attire, jewellery, and headpieces
  • Bharatanatyam silk costumes in vibrant traditional colours with temple-border detailing
  • Hand-crafted traditional drums tuned to Sri Lankan classical standards
  • Stage backdrops and LED panels sized for CIDFa's largest venues
Every item passed our pre-shipment quality inspection before it ever left the factory floor.

Phase 2: Seamless Logistics

From factory to Colombo port to CIDFa's rehearsal studios — we handled:
  • Customs clearance and documentation
  • Duty and tax optimization
  • Warehousing and inventory management
  • Timed delivery aligned with competition schedules
Zero delays. Zero damaged goods. Zero stress for CIDFa.

Phase 3: Event Production That Matches the Performance

Importing the gear was only half the battle. CIDFa's events are spectacles — and spectacles need spectacle-level production.
Our AV production team stepped in to deliver:
  • Multi-camera live coverage of the All Island Competition finals
  • LED wall installations displaying cultural visuals behind performers
  • Concert-grade lighting design highlighting every costume colour and movement
  • Live streaming setup so families across Sri Lanka could watch their children perform
  • Sound engineering ensuring every drumbeat and ankle bell resonated clearly
And our event management team coordinated:
  • Venue setup and teardown across multiple competition rounds
  • Backstage logistics for 498+ age categories and 8,000+ participants
  • Registration flow and crowd management
  • Vendor coordination for catering, security, and transport

The Result: A Standing Ovation

The CIDFa Provincial & All Island Dance Competition 2026 was a triumph:
  • 8,000+ students performed in costumes and with instruments sourced through My Golden Lanka
  • 10+ shows and performances ran flawlessly with our AV and event support
  • International cultural exchange programs (including the Bharat–Sri Lanka exchange) featured world-class production value
  • Zero costume failures, zero drum malfunctions, zero production delays
But the real victory? The look on a young dancer's face when they stepped onto a professionally lit stage, wearing a costume that fit perfectly, knowing their family was watching the livestream from home.
"My Golden Lanka didn't just supply our costumes and drums — they elevated our entire production. For the first time, our festival felt truly world-class." — CIDFa Organizing Committee

Why This Partnership Works

CIDFa and My Golden Lanka share something fundamental: a belief that Sri Lankan culture deserves world-class presentation.
They preserve the art. We provide the infrastructure. Together, we make sure that when a young dancer from a village school steps onto that stage, the world sees them shine.

Looking Ahead

As CIDFa prepares for their next decade of cultural leadership — expanding international exchanges, growing their student base, and pushing the boundaries of what Sri Lankan dance festivals can achieve — My Golden Lanka will be right there beside them.
More costumes. More drums. More lights. More unforgettable performances.
Because when tradition meets the right partner, the result is pure magic.
